Campfire Fun!

This past few days has been our family "outside" vacation days. We spent as much time outside as we could. It was mentioned that we have the best of both worlds these two days by staying home and NOT tent camping.
  • We are near bathroom facilities
  • No worries about food being kept safe
  • Water is nearby
  • Soft beds at night
  • No noisy campers nearby to mess with our world
  • The dogs can be untethered
  • No one complaining that we had the music too loud
  • No bother about the campfire wood... we had as much as needed.
The best part?  The campfire!  We roasted brats and hot-dogs and marshmallows and it was great! Let's face it. The campfire IS the best part of camping. You gather around, talking and tossing in a chunk of wood when the fire gets low, roast marshmallows or supper.

We plan to do the campfire again sometime and this time make roasted fish in foil and stuffed zucchini!  Food just tastes better when prepared over an open fire. Another favorite of ours is the "Hobo Supper" which is just sliced raw or partly cooked potatoes and carrots and onion with a pat of butter or so and salt and pepper. Wrapped in foil and roasted near the edge of the hot coals until done.  Always a favorite!

Feel free to share your reasons for liking or not liking campfires!
